WOOA Plastic Surgery βΊ Frequently asked questions
Where are the scars after epicanthoplasty and canthoplasty?
Eye corner surgery widens the inner or outer corner of the eye to change its horizontal and vertical length and overall look. The clinic website describes epicanthoplasty (opening the epicanthal fold at the inner corner), lateral canthoplasty (extending the outer corner) and lower canthoplasty (lowering the outer corner), with the degree and angle decided at consultation.

Risks and side effects
- Swelling, bruising, pain, bleeding and infection can occur.
- Asymmetry or a result that differs from the intended shape may require correction or revision surgery.
- Scars can remain at the incision site; how long they take to settle and how visible they are differ between individuals.
- The opened area can re-adhere.
- The opening may feel too much or too little, so the degree and angle are discussed in detail prior to surgery.
Results and recovery vary by individual. Possible complications are explained during consultation.
How it is done
For epicanthoplasty, the incision is designed around facial structure, skin condition and the desired shape, the epicanthal fold is incised along the inner corner and closed with fine sutures placed inward. The clinic uses about 50β80% exposure of the pink tissue at the inner corner as its reference. For lateral canthoplasty, the outer corner is extended, and the orbicularis oculi muscle is released and fixed to the periosteum to reduce re-adhesion, followed by fine suturing. For lower canthoplasty, the conjunctiva is incised and the tarsal tissue is fixed to the periosteum or CPF to lower the outer corner.

Frequently asked questions
How do the inner, outer and lower corner procedures differ?
Per the clinic website, epicanthoplasty opens the epicanthal fold so the pink tissue at the inner corner shows; lateral canthoplasty extends the outer corner to lengthen the eye by about 3β4 mm; lower canthoplasty lowers an upturned outer corner and increases the vertical height of the eye.
Can the opened corner close up again?
Re-adhesion can happen. The clinic states it reduces this by releasing the orbicularis oculi muscle and fixing it to the periosteum in lateral canthoplasty, and by fixing the tarsal tissue in lower canthoplasty. Healing differs with individual tissue condition.
When are the stitches removed?
Per the clinic's surgery information, stitches are removed after 7 days. The operation takes 30 minutes to 1 hour and no hospital stay is required.
