How it is done

Breast proportions and ultrasound identify the internal problem, then the capsule removal method is chosen. When full removal is not needed and only shape needs improving, a capsulotomy excises part of the capsule; when rupture, capsular contracture, seroma or calcification requires full removal, the implant is taken out first and a total capsulectomy removes all capsule tissue. The capsule is removed under direct endoscopic view.

Frequently asked questions

Why does a capsule form?

When an implant is inserted, the body forms a fibrous membrane around it as a normal protective reaction. Revision is needed if the capsule hardens or becomes abnormal and causes complications.

How do capsulotomy and total capsulectomy differ?

A capsulotomy excises part of the capsule when only shape needs improving. A total capsulectomy removes the implant first and then the whole capsule when there is rupture, capsular contracture, seroma or calcification.

Are stitches removed following surgery?

Per the clinic's post-operative guidance, the incision is closed with medical skin adhesive, so no stitches are removed at follow-up.

Who performs the breast surgery?

The clinic's breast surgery and breast revision pages state that three board-certified plastic surgeons β€” Dr. Kim Woo-jung, Dr. Park Young-ji and Dr. Park Hae-yeon β€” operate in person. A board-certified anesthesiologist is dedicated 1:1 to anesthesia from the start to the end of surgery.
