How it is done
After assessing the skin and face shape and making a design, incisions are made in a "VN" shape along the front and back of the ear and the rear hairline. The retaining ligaments are released and the SMAS in the target area is pulled vertically and fixed. The clinic states that the pulling strength is adjusted to the area of concern and depth of sagging, and that where foreign material was injected into the face by past procedures, removal and lifting can be done together. The SMAS (superficial musculoaponeurotic system) is a thin fibromuscular layer below the dermis, between the subcutaneous fat and the muscle. The clinic regards weakening and sagging of this layer as a cause of facial ageing and describes lifting the SMAS together with the skin. The clinic states that hairline incisions are made at a 45-degree angle to reduce strain on the hair follicles.
