Functional rhinoplasty — WOOA Plastic Surgery

Functional rhinoplasty corrects nasal obstruction caused by internal structure — such as a deviated septum, hypertrophic rhinitis or nasal valve stenosis — and, if needed, corrects the shape of the nose at the same time. The clinic website states that the structural cause is diagnosed with 3D-CT and surgery is planned by type. Price: KRW 50,000~ The clinic lists deviated septum (J34.2) and hypertrophic rhinitis (J34.3, J30.4) as covered by National Health Insurance, and nasal valve reconstruction (M95.0) as a statutory non-covered item, and advises checking claim eligibility with your insurer based on the diagnosis.

Who this is for

How it is done

According to the clinic website, a 3D-CT scan taken prior to surgery is used to analyse the internal structure of the nose, the cartilage, the skin layers and any functional problems, and the findings are reflected in the surgical plan. For a deviated septum, the deviated septum and bone are removed and the cartilage is straightened. For hypertrophic rhinitis (turbinate hypertrophy), the enlarged inferior turbinate and mucosa are shrunk with a radiofrequency device. For nasal valve stenosis, when the lateral alar cartilage has weakened, cartilage or skin is grafted on the outside to widen the valve (external valve graft); when the internal valve is narrowed, part of the septal cartilage is harvested and grafted to the roof inside the nose (internal valve graft), according to the clinic. If needed, cosmetic correction such as short-nose rhinoplasty or rhinoplasty without implants is performed together. An anesthesiologist monitors the patient during surgery; consultation, design and the operation are handled by the assigned surgeon, and aftercare consists of follow-up checks by that surgeon and 1:1 care by a dedicated coordinator, according to the clinic.

Frequently asked questions

Is functional rhinoplasty covered by insurance?

The clinic lists deviated septum and hypertrophic rhinitis as covered items and nasal valve reconstruction as a statutory non-covered item. It advises checking actual claim eligibility and documents with your insurer based on the diagnosis; cosmetic correction falls under the rhinoplasty fee (non-covered) on the fee schedule.

Which conditions are corrected?

The clinic describes deviated septum (the septum bends and narrows one nostril), hypertrophic rhinitis (the nasal mucosa thickens) and nasal valve stenosis (the air passage inside the nose narrows).

What tests are done prior to surgery?

According to the clinic, a 3D-CT scan analyses the internal structure of the nose, cartilage, skin layers and functional problems, and the results are reflected in the surgical plan. A nasal CT scan is listed separately on the clinic fee schedule at KRW 50,000–100,000 (VAT not included).
