WOOA Plastic Surgery › Frequently asked questions
How do breast surgery incision sites (armpit, breast fold, areola) differ?
For implant breast augmentation, the WOOA website describes two incisions: the armpit crease (about 2–4 cm) and the breast fold (about 3–4 cm); Motiva Preservé uses a 2.5–3 cm incision per the clinic's comparison table. The periareolar (areola) incision is described on the website as an incision for breast lift (ptosis correction), and revision can reuse the incision site of the first operation.

Incision sites compared
| Incision site | Length (per the clinic) | Who the clinic describes it for | Procedures |
|---|---|---|---|
| Armpit crease | About 2–4 cm (augmentation), 2.5–3 cm (Preservé comparison table), about 3–4 cm (armpit revision) | Those who want less visible scarring, with little breast sagging, or without a well-defined breast fold | Augmentation (Motiva, Mentor), Motiva Preservé, breast revision through the armpit |
| Breast fold | About 3–4 cm | Those with a clear breast fold, breasts positioned lower than average, or who need to return to daily life quickly | Augmentation (Motiva, Mentor), revision through the breast fold |
| Areola (periareolar) | Length not stated | Mild sagging requiring only a small reduction (breast lift) | Breast lift (ptosis correction) |
Incisions used for implant augmentation
The clinic's augmentation, Motiva and Mentor pages describe two incisions — the armpit crease and the breast fold — and do not describe a periareolar incision for implant augmentation. In either case the pocket is created under Full HD endoscopic view, the implant is inserted with a Keller funnel so it is not touched by hand, and the incision is closed with Dermabond skin adhesive; according to the clinic, no surgical drain is used.
Motiva Preservé incision
Per the clinic's comparison table, the Preservé incision is 2.5–3 cm (conventional augmentation 3.5–4.5 cm); the instrument description gives an average of 2.5–3.5 cm, depending on the patient. The clinic's list of suitable candidates for Preservé includes those who want the incision hidden in the armpit crease.
Incisions for revision surgery
- The clinic states that if the implant was originally inserted through the armpit crease, revision can be done along the armpit crease; if through the breast fold, through the breast fold.
- The armpit revision page explains that reusing the existing incision avoids adding a new incision line.
- The same page explains that a periareolar incision can damage breast gland tissue, while the armpit incision enters beneath the gland tissue.
- The clinic explains that scar tissue following an armpit incision makes dissection and visibility harder, so armpit revision is a difficult operation.
Breast lift incisions (periareolar, vertical, inverted-T)
| Incision | Clinic description | Scar size (clinic comparison) |
|---|---|---|
| Periareolar | For a small reduction | Low |
| Vertical | Periareolar plus vertical incision; removes more than periareolar for a stronger lift | Low |
| Inverted-T | From the areola down to the breast fold; removes a large amount and suits severe sagging | Medium |

Risks and side effects
- An incision scar remains whichever site is used, and how the scar settles varies between individuals.
- Keloid-type scars can form; they are treated with scar injections.
- As implant surgery, capsular contracture can occur (causes listed by the clinic: bleeding or hematoma, infection with inflammation, excessive fibrosis, implant damage).
- General complications such as bleeding, inflammation and infection can occur following surgery.
Results and recovery vary by individual. Possible complications are explained during consultation.

Frequently asked questions
How do I choose between the armpit and breast-fold incision?
The clinic describes the armpit incision for those who want less visible scarring, with little sagging or without a well-defined breast fold, and the breast-fold incision for those with a clear fold, breasts positioned lower than average, or who need a quick return to daily life. The final choice is made at examination and consultation.
Can augmentation be done through the areola?
The clinic's implant augmentation pages describe only armpit and breast-fold incisions; the periareolar incision is described as a breast lift incision. Please confirm at consultation.
Where is the Preservé incision?
A small incision of 2.5–3 cm per the comparison table (instrument description: 2.5–3.5 cm on average); the clinic's list of suitable candidates includes those who want the incision hidden in the armpit crease.
Does revision require a different incision site?
The clinic states that revision can reuse the original incision — the armpit crease if the first operation was through the armpit, the breast fold if it was through the fold.
How is the incision scar cared for?
The incision is closed with Dermabond so no stitches are removed; scar ointment starts at 2 weeks, keloid-type scars receive scar injections, and laser scar care may follow 6 months to 1 year later depending on healing.
